Haugaland Kraft has established their new solar power company, Endra. They aim for a pilot plant in 2023, with the goal of becoming a market-leading player in large solar parks in the Nordic region.
Haugaland Kraft have been selling photovoltaic systems to private and corporate customers since 2017. The group is now making a leap in a new direction, establishing the company Endra AS, which will build and operate the solar parks of the future.
– Numerous analyzes show that the markets demand for electricity will increase in the years to come. And the power must be sustainable. Utilizing solar power is the most affordable way to meet the energy needs of the future. Together with our customers we will develop solar plants that will contribute to significant rise in energy production both regionally and nationally, says CEO of Haugaland Kraft, Olav Linga.
The goal is to establish a pilot plant as soon as 2023, for where Endra will continue to gain experience, while new solar parks being planned and built.
Endra means change
The choice of name fell on «Endra». Endra translate to change – a new and sustainable way of thinking.
– We are entering a new era, transitioning to the green shift. The planned electrification will increase the need for electricity in the near future, and solar energy is part of the important change to sustainable electricity production, explains Kristian Gautesen, leader of the new company.
Utilizing “gray” areas
The new company will concentrate on utilizing so called “gray” areas in the municipalities.
– Gray areas are industrial locations or areas that can be utilized in a new and sustainable way. Examples are abandoned quarries and landfills, or large roof areas. In addition we are discovering favorable synergies between agriculture and solar production, says Linga.
The ideal size of the planned solar plant facilities are from around 30 meters and up. Endra wishes to get in touch with players, companies and municipalities holding suitable areas. The business model presupposes that the facilities will be owned and operated by the Haugaland Kraft Group, which will rent location for the solar plants from the landowner. This way, everyone involved benefits.
New jobs
There are several positive ripple effects from the establishment of Endra.
– In the long run, this could generate many new jobs and attract people interested in renewable energy and modern technology. It will create activity in the municipalities and with subcontractors. And we will be able to produce even more short-distance green energy. This will really have an impact on the climate records of our customers, and on our own, says Gautesen.
Favorable location
Modern solar parks are more efficient, and our region is a favorable location for solar power plants.
– The power utilization is comparable to what is achieved in, for example, Denmark and Germany, Gautesen explains.
Endra aim to become a leading supplier of solar power in the years to come.
– Our goal is to become a leading developer of solar parks in the Nordic region. Together with our customers and partners, we can make a difference in the evolution of renewable energy, concludes Executive President Olav Linga.
