Endra and REMA 1000 enter into Power Purchase Agreement for HIM Solar Park
REMA 1000 and the solar power company Endra have signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for HIM Solar Park at Toraneset in Vindafjord municipality. The solar park has been established on a former landfill site, which is now being given new life as a hub for renewable power generation.
The solar park, which is now ready for commissioning, has been developed and built by Endra. Under the agreement, REMA 1000 will purchase all electricity produced by the facility.
HIM Solar Park has an installed capacity of around 3 MWp and is expected to produce approximately 2.7 GWh of renewable energy annually – equivalent to the electricity consumption of more than 160 homes.
“We are very pleased that REMA 1000 wishes to be associated with HIM Solar Park through a long-term agreement. The agreement strengthens the project’s profitability and is at the same time a solid confirmation of its qualities – technically, environmentally and commercially. It also marks the beginning of an expanded and long-term collaboration between Endra and REMA 1000, where together we can contribute to developing and realising new renewable power production,” says Espen Nilsen, Head of M&A and Strategy at Endra AS.
“REMA 1000 aims to actively contribute to the realisation of more renewable energy initiatives. As a value-driven and responsible company, we are committed to giving more than we take. Endra takes a holistic approach to energy production, environmental considerations and biodiversity, which aligns well with our own philosophy of responsibility at every stage of the value chain,” says Kjell Stokbakken, Director of Goods and Supply at REMA 1000 and Chair of the Board of REMA Distribusjon.
Marks the commissioning of Norway’s first solar park on a closed landfill site
Endra received a licence for HIM Solar Park in June 2024 and is today marking that the facility is ready for commissioning with an official opening together with REMA 1000, project partners, mayors, owners, and other guests at HIM Toraneset Environmental Park.
“The development and construction of HIM Solar Park has been pioneering work in many respects, where both innovation and environmental considerations have been central. We are proud to see the project finally realised and that the facility can now begin producing clean energy from the sun. The project has provided us with valuable learning and experience – and is an important step in the further development of both Endra and the Norwegian solar power industry,” says Kristian Gautesen, CEO of Endra.
A pioneering project for Norwegian solar power development
HIM Solar Park is the first solar park in Norway to be built on a closed landfill site, a so-called “grey area”. The facility demonstrates how sustainable land use can be combined with renewable energy production. It utilises an area that must remain untouched for at least 30 years – the same lifetime as a solar park. The project also has a strong environmental profile, using natural stone as ballast instead of concrete foundations and establishing beehives to strengthen local biodiversity.
“We believe that all types of renewable power will play an important role in the energy system of the future. That is why we are proud to contribute to the development of one of Norway’s first ground-mounted solar parks – and the very first in Western Norway. If we are to meet the growing demand for renewable electricity from businesses and households, power production must be locally rooted, sustainable and forward-looking – and HIM Solar Park in Vindafjord is a prime example of exactly that,” says Pablo Barrera, Chair of the Board of Endra and Group CEO of Haugaland Kraft.
